Recently Starwood Hotels & Resorts has confirmed its plans to invest $6 billion in 50 new hotels and over 20,000 new rooms worldwide.Beginning in 2010, the hotel chain will open approximately 50 new hotels over three years in 15 countries. This includes the United States, Colombia, India, Russia, Slovakia, Taiwan and Vietnam.
The brand will nearly double its footprint in China with the addition of 28 new properties.
In the US, new hotels are planned for Brooklyn and Manhattan as well as several new convention hotels.
Sheraton currently is ranked eight in the world by size with over 400 hotels in 70 countries. The brand also claims about 92 percent of global awareness among business travelers. The new expansion effort follows a recent three year, multi-billion dollar revitalization of its brand.
